Attachment Focused EMDR Therapy
We all experience trauma sometimes in our lives. Trauma is any past event that is still upsetting or disturbing to you. Unresolved or suppressed trauma can leave you feeling stuck in the same psychological state of when the trauma occurred.
With extensive training and consultation through Parnell Institute, Tacha specialize in treatment of early attachment and developmental trauma using Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (AF-EMDR). Examples of early attachment and developmental trauma may includes abuse and neglect (sexual, physical, emotional, psychological) and other adverse experiences which occurs early on between child and caregiver or in a care-giving relationship. According to Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) "can have lasting, negative effects on health, well-being, and opportunity."

AF-EMDR therapy, created by Dr. Laurel Parnell, uses a modified protocols for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) that focuses on the attachment people form with parental figures in childhood. AF-EMDR has been found to be a more effective and advance treatment for a wide range of mental health problems including posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety and panic attacks, grief and loss compared to traditional psychotherapy (talk-therapy).

AF-EMDR therapy utilizes the natural healing of your own body. It aims to reduce distress and strengthen positive cognitions related to a traumatic event. When a disturbing event occurs, it can get locked in the brain with the original images, sounds, thoughts, feelings and body sensations. If the traumatic event is not effectively processed and stored in memory, it can result in maladaptive thoughts, feelings and behaviors. AF-EMDR therapy is used to address disturbing life experiences that contribute to problems in everyday life and relationships.

During a 60-minitues or 90-mintues AF-EMDR session, the traumatic information is stimulated and reprocessed in a painless way. You will not have to recount disturbing details of the event. It is your own brain that will be doing the healing and you are the one in control. Positive effects of AF-EMDR can be experienced after 1-2 sessions of AF-EDMR therapy.
