Emily Hodgson
Clinical Intern
Emily (she/her) was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and became passionate about mental health during her adolescent years. Growing up in a first-generation Latinx household, she witnessed the harmful effects of suppressing emotions and trauma. Counseling was deemed useless and reserved for people who were “crazy.” As a Clinical Intern, she hopes to change the narrative and reduce the mental health stigma in the Latinx community.
Emily understands how frightening it can be to begin and continue the counseling journey, so she hopes to walk the path with people with warmth, patience, and empathy while providing multicultural and LGBTQ+ affirmative counseling. In addition, she strives to develop a trusting, collaborative, and empowering counseling relationship. She believes in providing a safe and confidential environment that will empower clients and promote their full autonomy during sessions.
Emily has a B.S. in Sports Psychology with a minor in Psychology from Barry University. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Mental Health Counseling with an Advanced Certificate in LGBT Health, Education, and Social Services at NYU. Her goal is to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for both the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, as well as for all adolescents.
For fun, Emily enjoys traveling, journaling, and spending time with her friends and family. She is also actively trying to learn Spanish so that one day she can become a bilingual counselor.
