Refreshing Your Mental Health Routine

Summer has finally arrived, and many of us find ourselves looking for ways to change up our day-to-day routines as we enjoy longer days and more sunshine. It goes without saying that summer is also a time of relaxation, inviting greater clarity into our emotional and spiritual lives. This summer, you are invited to consider what you might like to change about the activities, practices, and rituals which fill your cup and renew your sense of vitality. One way to organize your mental health routine is to consider your self-care practices along the domains of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Take out a pen and paper and begin writing out those elements of your routine which fall along the three categories below.

Your Physical Wellness Routine

How do you incorporate joyful movement into your week? What obstacles impact your ability to give your body what it needs? Maybe you'd like to add a 10-minute walk to your commute instead of taking the bus, or perhaps you're trying to get outside during your lunch break for some fresh air. What’s working for you, and what would you like to change? By identifying these factors, you can create a more fulfilling and effective physical wellness routine that fits seamlessly into your life.

Your Emotional Wellness Routine

Emotional wellness routines are as diverse and unique as each of us. What does it look like when you give yourself the space to truly notice your feelings? More importantly, do these practices align with your authentic self? If journaling doesn’t resonate with you, perhaps sketching your surroundings with a pencil and paper brings you clarity. Emotional wellness flourishes through our creative outlets. How can you tailor your routine to reflect your true self and values? Exploring these questions can help you craft a routine that not only supports your emotional health but also celebrates your individuality.

Your Spiritual Wellness Routine

Spiritual wellness is a journey that reconnects us with our most compassionate and authentic selves. What practices help you anchor to the most loving version of yourself? Perhaps you are spiritual but not religious, gradually cultivating a unique set of rituals that resonate with your evolving beliefs. Or maybe your childhood religious community remains a steadfast source of strength and comfort. How do you find meaning in your life amidst the hustle and bustle? Take a moment to reflect: what aspects of your spiritual practice still ignite your passion, and what has grown stale over time? By exploring these questions, you can rejuvenate your spiritual journey and infuse it with new energy and purpose.

As you make your way through this reflection, you are encouraged to give yourself grace and set realistic goals for this season. Incremental uplifts to our routines can be powerful tools for long-lasting change.
